Presented by:
Orange Chamber Music Festival
Opus.her is a celebration of women creatives, represented by a fine selection of Australian women performers in an inmersive audio-visual display.
Weaving together archival footage, narrative and melody, virtuoso pianist Sonya Lifschitz and composer Robert Davidson create a series of musical portraits spanning centuries of female leaders, scientists and artists. The work titled So Much Myself: Piano Portraits will feature Ukrainian-Australian artist Sonya Lifschitz opening the first half of the Festival Gala: Opus.her.
The compelling new work from the creators of Stalin’s Piano brings together stories of discovery through the recorded words of some of our greatest creators and voices. Throughout, Lifschitz’s piano anchors the stories and transforms them into songs, with the melodies derived from each person’s spoken intonation. This stunningly original collection probes the big questions of our time and is a powerful ode to creators who have shaped our world.
In the second half, Opus.her will showcase the featured artists of OCMF 2025, violinist Alexandra Osborne, cellist Elina Faskhi and pianist Andrea Lam, performing an intriguing selection of solo and trio works by women’ composers Clara Schumann, Ethel Smyth, Florence Price and Nadia Boulanger.
As is traditional, the Festival Director has commissioned a new work to conclude the Festival Gala, this time celebrating the arrival of a new Orange resident, acclaimed Australian composer Jodie Blackshaw.
